The cylinder walls are electrochemically coated with Nikasil. At 1,000 rpm, it's literally shaking the airplane apart, but above 2,000 rpm, it runs smoothly. The F-33 was intended to fill the niche previously occupied by the now out-of-production 28 hp (21 kW) Rotax 277. I found my 1100 in a barn and have been working on getting it ready to fly. 58 gearbox use a 60x28 wooden prop. However I have heard that the Rotax 277 vibrates a bit. . Even with electric start, the Polini is lighter than the 277. The F-33 uses free air cooling, dual capacitor discharge ignition and reed valve induction, with a single Bing 34mm slide or optional diaphragm type carburetor. The Rotax 277 vibrates something fierce. I don't have any experience with the F33, but if the torque and hp is about the same at the same rpm and reduction ratio, the same prop should work. Most 277's with a 2. Can anyone confirm this? Does anyone have experience with any of these that can give I think the F33 would be a better option than the 277, but it is spendy. An Ultraprop with 3 blades at 56" and 12-13 degree pitch blocks works well too. The extra cost for the fuel injected version still looks like a dollar store bargain compared to what a new Rotax costs in the 2 seaters that everybody is building. It has a Nicasil cylinder so it's not nearly as prone to cold seizure as a steel-sleeved Rotax. The engine runs but apparently, I haven't got it dialed in right. North of $4500. It was tearing up my airframe. It came with a Hirth F-33. The Polini is smooth as silk, due to a combination of the counter rotating balance shaft and the clutch that disengages the prop at idle. Dec 18, 2021 · If you can afford the weight and the CG works out, the 2 cylinder Hirth looks like a fantastic option. It's pricey, though. The Hirth F33 is another good option. Recreational Power okayed it this Winter. In my experience and from experience of others I know, Hirth engines often require a lot of fiddling to get them set up right. Haven't flown yet.
